"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week, in 2013."

First shot with new camera.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who encouraged me to treat myself and for supporting me in my nascent hobby.

In a rare moment of inaction.  Toward the end of a long, napless day, he gets sleepy and casts himself on the couch, observing.  He misses nothing.  Everything is significant and impresses itself upon him.  He's not aware of the impressions, and maybe that's what makes them so potent.  One day, he will wake up in the morning to find them there, and he'll imagine that they were always with him.  It's so fascinating to watch, this stage of becoming.  It reminds me that there are miracles.

He likes to repeat things we've said, especially new words.  Trying out the shape of them in his mouth, like strange fruit.

From last week's linkup, I love this picture of little Lucy.  It's funny, you can look at a portrait like this, completely backward by traditional photography's standards, and know instantly so much about her!  Little frog!  Also, the creative angle of the little girl in the garden and the belly shot.

  1. Oh this stage of becoming, it's so magical isn't it? I love your phrase "like strange fruit" - it's so apt.

    1. Thank you--I wish I could remember what it was like for me at his age!

  2. Isn't that just the best part about being a mother: when you watch your wee babes discover things for the first time.
